The Effect of Social Support on Aging Anxiety£º Double Mediation Effect of Depression and Coping on Elderly

Abstract

|
The purpose of the study was exploring the factors affecting aging anxiety and its intervention strategies by examining the effect of social support on aging anxiety, and the double mediation effect of depression and coping on elderly in this relationship. A total of 303 elderly Koreans whose age is older than 65, and currently participating elderly community centers in Seoul were participated the study. For double mediation analysis, SPSS Macro Process v.2.13 was used, and the result follows. First, the negative effects were measured on social support to depression, depression to coping on elderly, and coping on elderly to aging anxiety, but there was no direct effect on social support to coping on elderly. Second, in the relationship between social support and aging anxiety, double mediation effect of depression and coping on elderly were significant. Based on these results, it was suggested the enhancement of social support for reducing elderly aging anxiety, and political and practical intervention methods to lower depression and active coping on elderly.
